Rides

As we build the club and members, we will be partnering with Austin Cycling Association on local bike ride. Our goal is to offer rides to all levels.
If you would like to suggest specific local bike ride and dates please contact us.

Our rides are friendly and open to all cyclists as we truly have something to offer for every skill and comfort level. Weather you are looking to ride with a fast paced group on challenging terrain or stroll through the east Austin community on a leisurely tour of bike routes, we have what you need. All open rides are free to join and open to all members of the community. Maps are still being developed so please be patient and as our club grows so will our site.

Art Cruise to ARTCRANK

ARTCRANK Austin brings together the worlds of poster art and bikes in one big party. It only gets better when you start the evening with a cruiser ride enjoying some of Austin's public art before the show. We'll meet up at Plaza Saltillo (E. 5th ST and Comal) and end the ride a few blocks away at Pine Street Station (E. 5th St and Waller)

Lights and helmets are required. Don't forget the MetroRail Red Line runs late on Fridays so you can leave the car at home and bring your bike on the train.

Start Location: Plaza Saltillo

African American Heritage District Bike Tour

Join Major Taylor Austin for the second annual African American Heritage District Bike Tour. This ride departs from Huston-Tillotson University and makes four stops where our docent, local historian Harrison Eppright, will paint a picture of the significance of the buildings, the neighborhoods, and the people that helped make Austin what it is today. Before departure, we'll have a brief welcome from the City of Austin's Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole and a warm-up on the beautiful University grounds.

This family-friendly ride is one of a series of historic tours being developed for the newly designated African American Heritage District. The ride is a kick-off for the African American Cultural Heritage Festival which takes place from 1:00-5:00pm on the University grounds. The Festival will have music and dance performances, food vendors and a number of community booths so plan to stay and enjoy the afternoon.

Contrary to popular belief, East Austin does have some hills and we will see just a couple on our four mile route. The pace will be easy and children are invited to attend with adult companions if they can complete a four mile ride (with stops.) Trailers and trail-a-bikes are welcome. The group will have an escort provided by the Austin Police Department.

Festival and bike tour parking is available off-street on Chalmers between 8th and 11th St. The campus can be entered via the gate on 11th St, stairs on Chalmers or the front entrance on Chicon. The group will meet up on the north end of the quad. We ask that you respect campus rules and refrain from riding on sidewalks or grassy areas.

Start Location; Huston-Tillotson University

25 Major Taylor Birthday Celebration

Let's celebrate Major Taylor's birthday today in conjunction with the National Brotherhood of Cyclists and Major Taylor Clubs across the country. The Major Taylor Club of Austin TX focuses on inspiring a love of cycling in minority communities, as a healthy alternative mode of transportation, a competitive sport, a way of staying fit and as a way of building community through subculture.

We'll keep a nice social pace as we cruise east near the lake and up to Rosewood Park finishing with a loop around the Capitol. We will regroup as needed with a few of the east side hills. A longer ride option to Mueller will be offered for those wanting to stretch their legs a little bit.
